Today has been a pretty productive day for me and my husband. We woke up around 7:30, cleaned out our cars, mowed the lawn, and went exploring on Lake Wylie. Then we came home and I jumped on our hammock in the backyard. I was thinking back on last week and how hard it was being alone in the new house, in a new city, and my husband was out of town almost every night. Staying busy was the only thing that kept me sane.
Dealing with change can be difficult especially moving to a new city where you don’t know a single soul. I have moved many times in my life, even across the country at age 22 but this move to Charlotte, NC hit me the hardest. After getting married and getting used to the idea of Jordan being home with me every night, I became extremely homesick when he wasn’t.
So…the only thing I could do was STAY BUSY! This is the biggest piece of advice I can give someone who is going through a similar situation. Stay motivated and find things to keep yourself from thinking about being alone or dealing with the changes you’re going through. I cleaned the house spotless and blasted music while doing so. Enjoy the alone time because it’s important to learn how to be by yourself. I love being with my husband but spending every second with someone isn’t realistic nor it’s healthy. It gave us time to really miss each other and appreciate every moment we get to spend together.
Loneliness sucks! I have been there, so many times. I have been living across the country from my family for a few years and I still get those days where I cry because I miss my Mom and Dad. I know…I’m 24 and I still miss my parents. There are those moments where I sit down sometimes and the loneliness hits me to the point where nothing seems right and I just want to ball up in my bed and cry.
Here are 10 ways that will help you deal with change or loneliness:
BINGE ON A NETFLIX SHOW
CLEAN OUT AND DONATE OLD ITEMS
WRITE IN A JOURNAL
FIND A NEW HOBBY
READ A BOOK
FIND NEW FAVORITE SPOTS (COFFEE SHOPS, SHOPPING AREAS)
CATCH UP WITH OLD FRIENDS ON FACETIME
GET A NEW PET!
All these things have helped me whenever I feel down or alone, I hope they help you as well:)
Have a great Sunday night!
